Lots of Tween & Teen Programs Coming Up!

Posted: July 30, 2015 in Uncategorized

Hey everyone! I have been trying to plan more tween and teen programs for you all. I am hoping that they are things that you are all interested. I surveyed those of you who go to the middle and high school back in the spring to see what kinds of programs you all wanted to see here. As much as I would like to have a giant music festival or comic convention, it is hard given our limited space and funds. However, I am listening to you guys and planning the kinds of things you asked for that I can provide for you. This means more DIY projects, more tech stuff, and more music! I just finished up a ukulele program and a guitar program, and the kids I had really learned a lot!

Here’s a look at what’s coming up in August:

Minecraft Meetup
Thursday, August 6th – 4:00 PM
Bring your laptop and play Minecraft with other fans! Here’s a chance to discuss techniques, share worlds, and hang out. Snacks will be provided!

Maker Monday: Go Animate (All Ages)
Monday, August 10th – 4:00 PM
Create your own cartoon or animation using Go Animate! Laptops are recommended, though if you do not have access to one, you can always partner up with someone and collaborate. Registration required.

Maker Monday: Stop Motion Video (Ages 9+)
Monday, August 17th – 4:00 PM
Learn how to create your own stop motion movie with a camera, computer, and LEGOs! Registration required.

DIY Instagram Photo Craft
Wednesday, August 19th – 3:00 PM
Create a magnet using your own Instagram photos! Please e-mail Sara the picture that you would like to use at smartone@oxfordlib.org so she can resize and print it for you! Registration required.

Maker Monday: Photo Editing (All Ages)
Monday, August 24th – 4:00 PM
Learn the basics of photo editing software! A laptop is recommended, though a smartphone could work. Sara will demonstrate Photoshop as well as a free online photo editing software. Registration required.

Computer Dissection (Ages 10+)
Wednesday, August 26th – 3:00 PM
Take apart a computer and see what’s inside! Inspect all of the parts and see if you can figure out how to put it back together again.

Pokémon Club (All Ages)
Thursday, August 27th – 4:00 PM
Play and trade Pokémon cards and hang out with fellow card enthusiasts! Gotta catch ‘em all!

Some of these events are all ages, but I do think that some of them are better suited for an older crowd. If you have any questions or would like to register, don’t hesitate to give us a call or stop in! 🙂
